Wellington CBD Pump Station 1 to 7 Upgrades: Improving Infrastructure and Building Resilience

Local Government Projects
The Project
As experts in three waters engineering design, hydraulic modelling and pump station design, Vecta were engaged by Wellington Water to deliver this complex project for Wellington City Council. Our scope was to investigate the primary Wellington CBD pump station system and plan a package of upgrade works to deliver future resilience to the network. Our scope included the investigation and design of the wastewater pressure network with an added focus on the renewal of seven major urban pump stations. Vecta was in charge of project delivery as well as procurement and construction monitoring.

What We Did
Vecta provided an end-to-end engineering solution from conceptual design to final delivery. We undertook hydraulic modelling and resilience planning to determine the best solution. Our team developed a network masterplan which included technically complex upgrades, seamlessly combining rising main conveyancing with major mechanical, structural, electrical, and safety enhancements for key pump station assets. With the master plan in place, we structured the project delivery into multiple packages to allow for client budget deployment flexibility. We assisted Wellington Water with tendering the works and managed the project delivery.
The Outcome
The upgrades to the Wellington CBD pump station network provides Wellingtonians with a resilient system for the future. The implementation of pump station upgrades has resolved historical pump operating issues as well as improved operational efficiency. Furthermore, upgrades to monitoring equipment has made remote monitoring of the network easier, while improved ventilation and access have improved operator health and safety.
